Crypto Social Media Growth Case Study: How We Reached 3M Accounts Organically on Instagram

This case study dives into how we were able to reach over 3 million accounts on Instagram for one of our crypto clients, completely organically. Our strategy focused on having a diverse and consistent content plan, and between October 2023 and February 2024 we were able to achieve over 6,000,000 impressions and a 1700% follower increase for our crypto client.

Although we have reached over 3 million people in those 4 months, this came after a long period of very low engagements, a fate the vast majority of projects starting organically have encounter.

Our New Strategy


The Target Group


The client that we are mentioning on in this case study has built a crypto investment mobile app that simplifies the entire process for consumers, meaning that our target group for our social media strategy is the "retail" market.


As we primarily focused on content that would appeal to crypto novices and individuals looking to get started with investing in cryptocurrencies, without going too deep into the rabbit hole. This means making engaging and shareable short videos, high quality infographics, keeping up with social media trends and algorithm changes


The Platform


The primary social media platforms for reaching this target group are TikTok and Instagram, but as we also wanted to strengthen the client's brand through our social media, we decided to focus on Instagram as TikTok does not allow for more diverse content formats. Nonetheless, content can also be re-uploaded to other relevant social media platforms besides just Instagram for even more reach, which we will cover in the next paragraph.


The Content


As our target group are crypto novices looking to get started with investing, we decided to focus on content that educates and brings value about our niche while also making relatable comedic content. This meant making interesting high quality infographics with data that crypto novices can't find easily, creating shareable funny short videos and keeping up with social media trends and algorithm changes.



The formats we created content in for Instagram were reels (short videos), single image posts, carousels and stories. This content can also be re-uploaded to other relevant social media platforms besides just Instagram for even more reach. Short videos can be re-uploaded to TikTok, YouTube or LinkedIn, while images and infographics can be posted on X / Twitter and LinkedIn, and be used for and included in longer form written content, such as blog posts.

1. Having a Diverse Content Plan


The primary reason for the slow growth before the start of our new campaign was the focus on only 1 format, short-form videos. After realizing this strategy was unsuccessful, in mid-September we started posting a balanced content calendar with all content formats, including single image posts, carousels, stories and videos.


This shift to a balanced content plan helped us grow the client's Instagram and subsequently reach over 3 million accounts. Nonetheless, video content is the format through which we reached the majority of users, but without implementing other formats into our strategy as well, we would not have achieved such results.


2. Prioritize Consistency


Although important, having a diverse content plan isn't the main priority for growth. That would be consistency. This word gets thrown around way too often in the marketing world, but for organic growth on social media, it truly cannot be understated. Once you select strategy that works, stick with it, stay consistent, and long-term it will show results.


We started our diverse content strategy with the client in mid-September, but have failed to see any improvement in growth until mid-October. This means an entire month of seeing no improvements from the previous plan.

Nonetheless, we stayed consistent and after a month of no progress, we achieved a breakout. A piece of content we produced reached 100,000 people in a single day, and since then, the growth hasn't stopped. We continued with our consistency, and a little over 3 months after, we hit our second breakout, when a piece of content reached over a million people a single day.


Before November 2023, the client was reaching 50 - 100 accounts per day, and after, the client started reaching 3,000 - 30,000 daily. We got both results using the exact same strategy & content plan, the only difference is consistency.

Working hard and staying consistent with a diverse content plan is difficult when you see no results for over month, but that is when you understand the true meaning of "consistency". Stick to a consistent strategy for at least 4 - 8 weeks, and only change afterwards if it's not producing results.
